Fused glass colored by ash and soot from papers / 87 x 54 cm / 2017-2021
In the SNM series, I focused on soot itself. I didn’t try to make any particular shape and figure, just covered the surface with soot.
I used waste papers, receipts and posters I found on the street. I put them on a sheet of glass and adjust the distance between them to make a gradient of depth of soot.
Just like the splashed black ink on paper, smudged soot creates an ink-and-wash painting in glass. Things remain in glass. Disappeared, but yet not disappeared..
SNM 시리즈
유리에 종이에서 변형된 재와 그을음 / 87 x 54 cm / 2017-2021
SNM 시리즈는 그을음에 초점을 둔 작업들이다.
특정한 형상이나 패턴을 의도하지 않고 유리 표면 전체를 덮어 그을음 자체를 마주하며 그 깊이를 관찰하고자 하였다.
우리 주변에서 가장 흔하게 사용하고 버려지는 영수증이나 길거리의 전단지 등을 모아 작업하였다.
종이들의 두께와 간격을 조절해가며 다양한 그을음의 진하기와 색을 관찰할 수 있었다.
종이 위에서 발묵하는 먹처럼 유리 안에서 그을음은 번져나간다.
