450 shattered fragments from stressed glass, magnet / 18 x 10 ft installation / 2022
I have been working on revealing the colors of stress hidden within clear glass. Glass expands and contracts when it is heated and cooled. If a glass piece is not annealed for an appropriate amount of time, it will get stressed and explode. I make stressed glass objects in various ways and in the process, more than 70% of the glass pieces can not withstand the stress, and crack or explode. I have gathered these shattered fragments of glass that have been left in every corner of my studio for the past year and a half. Can the results of the natural properties of glass be called failures? I think these fragments deserve to be displayed.

유리는 깨지기 쉬운 물성을 지닌 재료이다.
나는 유리를 사용하여 우연성을 의도하는 작업들을 만들고있다.
이 과정에서 계획과는 다르게 유리가 깨지는 경우가 빈번하게 발생하는 것을 경험하며 성공작과 실패작 을 어떤 기준으로 구분할 수 있을지에 대한 고민을 하게되었다.
금이 가거나 깨진다는 유리 본성의 결과물을 무조건 실패한 것이라고 말할 수 있을까?
이런 의문을 품으며 작업실 구석구석에 몇년간 방치되어있던 유리 파편들을 모아보았다.
